2024 will be a special year for Eroica Japan: it will celebrate its 10th anniversary in the beautiful setting of the Izu Peninsula.
On 11 and 12 May 2024, Eroica Japan will have the honour of celebrating its 10th anniversary, having become the most sought-after cycling event for all vintage cycling enthusiasts in Asia. Since the spirit of Eroica arrived in Japan in 2013, thousands of cyclists from all over the world have had the opportunity to discover the beauty of a country that has a strong cycling culture in its DNA.
Eroica Japan will continue to protect and promote the original spirit of cycling, which is why it has chosen the Izu Peninsula as its venue, a small gem of natural beauty and culture linked above all to the centuries-old history of the samurai. The Izu Peninsula is one of the most popular destinations for Japanese cyclists, thanks to its quiet roads, picturesque hot spring villages (where you can still breathe in an authentic Japanese atmosphere) and its beautiful coastline, where you can admire imposing sea stacks rising out of the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Another highlight of the Izu Peninsula is its majestic peaks, from which you can admire the imposing figure of Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is the symbol of the 10th edition.
Eroica Japan includes adventurous dirt road sections as an additional challenge for all heroic cyclists. These sections will take you to unique and hidden places that would otherwise go unnoticed.
Samurai and cycling - The Izu region is still famous for its centuries-old cultural connection to the samurai tradition. It was in Izu that the first family of warriors was born, transforming Japan from an empire linked to aristocratic families to the Japan we know today, with its sophisticated art forms of tea ceremonies, ikebana flower arrangements and origami.
Thanks to the samurai, the culture of the sword was also born, a legacy that has been passed on to cycling today. In fact, Japan not only considers keirin a national sport, but also maintains a very strong culture of handcrafted bicycle production, especially randonneurs, which are well suited to Japanese roads and trails.
Refreshment points - At Eroica Japan, special attention has been paid to refreshment points. Along the route, you will have the opportunity to sample the region's culinary specialities, enriching your experience in Japan with authentic flavours. In addition, the peninsula is known for its abundant hot springs (the famous onsen). After the event, you can relax in one of the many welcoming natural hot springs.
Eroica Japan therefore offers you not only two days of adventurous cycling, but also an immersion in the culture and history of a millennial country like Japan.
We look forward to celebrating the first of many anniversaries to come.
The routes - Four routes await heroic cyclists from all over the world, to satisfy every need and request.
Cultural experiences - In Izu, you can discover an authentic and genuine world, where you can experience traditional Japanese culture first-hand. You can pick fresh green tea leaves by hand or participate in mystical tea ceremonies, or visit ancient temples and perfectly preserved samurai houses.
