Ri-Generazioni: cycling as a leaven for small villages

The conference was created to tackle social isolation and youth unemployment in the area, transforming Buonconvento into a center of educational excellence. In the project vision of "Ri-Generazioni," through the recovery of a municipal space, the village becomes a Permanent Laboratory: a HUB where young people acquire skills that can be used in the cycle tourism and circular economy markets.

This is not just about sport, but about a profound regeneration that includes:

  • Technical Skills: training "Specialized Cycle Tourism Mechanics" expert in e-bike maintenance and vintage restoration.
  • Upcycling: recovering discarded frames and workshop waste to give them a new life.
  • Experience Providers: creating slow hospitality professionals capable of designing digital and narrative tourist itineraries.
  • Intergenerational Mentoring: the young people involved (ages 14-35) become tutors for primary school children in road safety workshops.

Speakers

  • Riccardo Conti (Mayor of Buonconvento): Will discuss the challenge of transforming unused spaces into vital centers of production and life for the new generations.
  • A representative of the Tuscany Region will analyze the "village-workshop" model as a replicable prototype for the regeneration of inland areas and social sustainability.
  • A representative of Toscana Promozione Turistica will delve into the importance of having resident "Experience Providers" for an authentic narration of the Tuscany brand.
  • Lorenzo Borgogni (Pro Loco of Buonconvento): Will illustrate the integration between the new "Community Mentors" and the traditional activities of the village.
  • Giancarlo Brocci (Creator of L’Eroica): Will explore the ethics of cycling as a tool for landscape protection and the educational value of upcycling.
  • Franco Rossi (President of Eroica Italia SSD): Will present the paths to guarantee young people certified practical qualifications and internships within the Eroica partner network.
  • Saverio Metti (Vice President of FCI): Will speak on the synergy between federal sport, road safety, and the technical growth of young people as a pillar for the future of Italian cycling.

The conference is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, April 10th at 5:30 PM.
