Eroica per l’Ambiente: ten years of sustainable passion

In 2026, NOVA Eroica Buonconvento reaches the milestone of its tenth edition. This marks a decade in which the "beauty of fatigue" has been inseparably intertwined with a responsibility toward the landscape. Since the very first ride in 1997, Eroica has protected the strade bianche (white roads) and the clay hills; today, this commitment evolves into a model of integral sustainability looking toward the future of the planet.

The Eroica for the Environment project gathers the green soul of our event: a focus that stems from the values of the circular economy—inherent in the recovery of vintage bikes, frames, and clothing—transforming them into concrete actions, ethical partnerships, and global strategies.

Actions of NOVA Eroica 2026: A decade of commitment

To mark the tenth anniversary, the Buonconvento event honors territorial protection through consolidated initiatives and international milestones:

  • The Eroica Italia Sustainability Manual: Eroica Italia SSD confirms the commitments made with this operational tool for the conscious management of events. Presented during the 28th Edition of L’Eroica, the Manual commits the organization to raising awareness among participants, organizers, and stakeholders on the necessity of adopting sustainable practices before, during, and after the event.
  • The Sustainable Cycling Manifesto: Born from a collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Manifesto returns to Buonconvento with its 10 core principles. It serves as a practical guide for every cyclist, ensuring every pedal stroke becomes an act of environmental awareness.
  • UCI Climate Action Charter: Since 2024, Eroica has been a proud member of the global UCI charter. Our goal is clear: to drastically reduce CO2 emissions by 2030, making cycling events a global example of climate respect.
  • Adotta un Chilometro: A choral action involving associations from the 17 municipalities touched by the permanent routes. Maintaining the 290 km of white roads is a collective act of love to preserve the integrity of the Tuscan landscape.
  • Eco-Solidarity race number: For 2026, every participant will wear a race number made from recycled fabric by Roy Roger's. Printed with eco-friendly inks, this number is not just "secondary raw material" but a symbol of solidarity, supporting AIL Siena Grosseto this year.
  • Waste management with Sei Toscana: At every refreshment point, waste separation is guaranteed through dedicated stations. Thanks to the partnership with Sei Toscana, we promote education on correct disposal to leave the territory untouched after the race passes.

Certified sustainability and Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM)

NOVA Eroica Buonconvento meets the highest sustainability requirements for major events, acting on every aspect of production:

  • The Eco-Sustainable medal: To celebrate the finish line achievement, every athlete will receive a medal made of eco-sustainable natural material, produced using exclusively certified ecological inks.
  • Clean energy: All electricity supplies required for the village setup and services come exclusively from certified renewable sources.
  • Short supply chain and territory: Our refreshment points offer identity, not just energy. We exclusively use local food and wine products, supporting the economy of Sienese farms and reducing the carbon footprint related to transport.
  • Zero Waste race pack: The race pack is made of durable material and contains local organic excellence and reusable water bottles to eliminate single-use plastic consumption along the route.

Celebrating ten years of NOVA Eroica means recognizing that sport is the most powerful lever for social rebirth and environmental protection.
