A year of concrete actions for responsible cycling

On the occasion of the 2025 edition, we presented our Sustainability Manual. Over this past year of hard work and passion, Eroica Italia SSD did not stop at simply safeguarding those principles; we refined them, put them into practice, and extended them to every single aspect of our organization.

For the 29th edition of L’Eroica, sustainability is no longer just a strategic guide—it is a consolidated practice. Riding on the white roads of Chianti means taking care of the legacy we leave behind: a positive impact that lives on through respect for the natural environment, support for the local economy, and the enhancement of our community.

The Three Pillars of Eroica Sustainability

Environmental Sustainability

1. Rigorous application of the Sustainable Cycling Manifesto.
2. Drastic reduction of the event's ecological footprint and circular waste management.
3. Active protection of the landscape through route maintenance and care initiatives like “Adopt a Kilometer”.

Economic Sustainability

1. Support for short supply chains and direct backing of local producers and businesses.
2. Promotion of slow, non-seasonal tourism that respects local community dynamics.

Social Sustainability

1. Guarantee of maximum inclusivity, accessibility, and respect for diversity.
2. Active involvement of local schools, youth, and area associations in organization and hospitality.

Principles and values in action

• Inclusivity and accessibility: events open to all, featuring dedicated services to ensure participation for people with disabilities, along with initiatives engaging the entire community.
• Environmental respect: elimination of single-use plastics, adoption of biodegradable or recycled materials, modular setups, and energy supply powered by renewable sources.
• Legacy and protection: continuous improvement of permanent cycling infrastructure (Terra Eroica) and preservation of Chianti’s historical, cultural, and gastronomic heritage.
• Transparency: sharing environmental results and achievements openly with participants, partners, and institutions.

 For participants: use reusable water bottles, leave no trace along the routes, choose low-impact transportation to reach Gaiole, and respect the nature that welcomes you.

For organizers: prioritize km 0 suppliers, train staff on ecological practices, eliminate waste at rest stops, and constantly monitor environmental impact.

For sponsors and partners: share high sustainability standards, eliminate single-use promotional items, and adopt transparent, responsible production processes.
